Good Japanese comfort food + sushi/sashimi. Best thing was the daily special which was the miso salmon collar. Tofu was interesting. Salad is good and crisp

Best sushi in NYC. Fresh, high quality, elegantly served, and well priced. Even the way the takeout is packed is impressive. They have a good everyday menu plus unique daily specials. I love coming here for lunch, dinner, any time really. Sometimes I'll get takeout and bring it to the park nearby because it makes a great picnic. Anyway, you should come here. Everyone who does loves it.

Third/Fourth time here. Almost become my go to place when I'm around the river side in LIC. The overall vibe is like a canteen. Cozy and family style. My go to order is the Chicken curry rice. Sometimes after working out, or when you tired, you don't really need some fancy food but just such cozy and warm rice to comfort your stomach. Plus, the curry is above the average level in the city.

One of my favourite dine-in sushi spots in Hunter's Point! I discovered them a few years ago during the pandemic when they offered takeout omakase set, which was always really delicious. Since 2022, I started dining in more and love the ambience - really clean, minimal and simple decor and service is always really friendly!

Solid spot in the neighborhood for sushi! The place is on the smaller side so it might be wise to make a reservation if you can. We ended up sitting on the counter off to the side and it was a wee bit cramped so that would ideally be avoided with a reservation! We got: - kamo salad 6/10: while it looks appetizing in photos, the duck was too tough and just didn't taste fresh. - hibino sashimi plate 9/10: i thought it was a pretty good portion and the quality of the fish seemed great. The salmon and yellowtail in particular were our favorites! - rolls: got a variety of rolls which i can't recall which ones we got - but all in all i enjoyed the special rolls much more than the "regular" ones so now i know what to aim for next time

Food and service was outstanding. We tried the fresh tofu and edamame for our starters. The fresh tofu came in a jar and was served with scallions, ginger and soy-dashi sauce. I have never experienced tofu like this and it was amazing! We proceeded to order 5 different sushi rolls starting with the panko-crusted eel roll off of the special list. It was incredibly crunchy and the ingredients were fresh. At the conclusion of our meal, we were offered dessert and then complimentary hot tea. The ambiance was upbeat and chill. We noted that the music selection included Pink Martini. Would definitely return!

Hibino is a charming, unassuming Japanese restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner of Long Island City. The minimalist ambiance creates a cozy and intimate atmosphere, making it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Service was both fast and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. The staff's attentiveness without being intrusive made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped in. We opted to share several rolls, and each one was a delightful journey of flavors. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, and the presentation was simple yet elegant. What truly impressed us was the reasonable pricing, offering a fantastic value for the quality of the dishes.

I saw this place on IG a while ago but finally had the chance to come by for a quick lunch this week. It was decently empty around 12:30 when I arrived, although people generally came in and out during my meal. The interior is really quite nice - cleanly minimalist - and it is very spacious overall. I ordered one of their daily entree bento boxes. The list of entrees you can pick from (I presume) changes regularly; they have it displayed around the restaurant on some chalkboards, and you can also check their website in advance for the list. I opted for the buta yakuniki (pork loin with soy mirin), and I also ordered a spicy tuna roll. The bento box was very nicely arranged. I was especially enamoured with the white rice; the sprinkled dried seaweed looked really nice over the fragrant rice (pictures do not do it justice!). The pork loin was really tasty. The meat was tender and well-cooked, and the sauce was very nice, not too heavy but was a little bit salty. The side salad was not bad; very fresh and crispy greens, I thought the gingery sauce was a bit strong for my taste. Ironically, though, the obanzai was probably the worst part of the meal. Today's options were some chopped napa cabbage (instead of the pickled tsukemono), and some eggplants / lotus roots. These veggies were not very flavourful (esp the cabbage! I ended up dipping them in the soy sauce), and the eggplant was quite overcooked and mushy. Also, I love tsukemono so was a bit disappointed when I saw that it had been unexpectedly been replaced. The spicy tuna roll was generally delicious. The fish was very fresh and tasty, but the spicy mayo was Way too oily/heavy, and there was way too much of it. I guess the lesson is to just order the regular tuna roll next time? Anyway. To be clear, though, the meal was really fantastic overall -- and $12 for a bento? in this economy? (Tuna roll was $6.50). I already cannot wait to come back again soon, and I'm very eager to see what other yummy entrees they offer :)

This is one of those reviews I'm very scared to write because it might mean my wait to get in next visit is longer. Tucked away on a busy street in an unassuming neighborhood in Long Island City is a legit treasure. No fuss, limited menu that changes daily, limited seating, limited staff....unlimited authenticity!!! The stars speak for themselves. When your seated neighbors to the left and right are speaking Japanese....that should tell you something. We had the sushi lunch, and an extra roll to share! Pilled with fresh fish, pickles, rice, served with piping hot Miso Soup. Everything was what a lunch spot serving Japanese food should be. The price, the quality...just...ya...go there...but also...save me a spot!!
